Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 3 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea, Gemaizah 1888 (Surgn. J. R. R. Robertson, M.B. Med. Staff) note error in third initial; Khedive’s Star, 1884-86, light pitting from star, otherwise good very fine and very rare (3) £600-800

The combination of Abu Klea with Gemaizah 1888 is believed to be unique to a medical officer.

John Robert Stevenson Robertson was born at Tweedmouth on 2 February 1859. He was appointed Surgeon on the Medical Staff on 4 August 1883, and served in the Nile Expedition of 1884-85, with the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment, including the action at Abu Klea, engagements near Metammeh and in the return of the force to Korti (Medal with two clasps, and Khedive’s Star). He also took part in the operations near Suakin in December 1888, including the engagement at Gemaizah (Clasp to Egyptian Medal). Surgeon Robertson resigned his commission on 21 January 1891.
