Nathaniel McCreery was born at Fermoy on 13 November 1849, qualified as F.R.C.S. Edin., and was appointed Surgeon on 31 March 1874. He served in the Nile Expedition 1884-85 (Medal with clasp, and Khedive’s Star); in the Soudan with the Frontier Force, 1885-86; and in the operations near Suakin in December 1888, including the engagement at Gemaizah (mentioned in despatches, London Gazette 11 January 1889, 3rd Class Medjidie, and clasp to Egyptian Medal). He was promoted to Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1894, went on retired pay in September 1896, but was employed when on the Retired List at Golden Hill Fort, Isle of Wight, 1896-97, and at Cork, 1899-1902. He died at Kilkenny on 30 September 1902.
