Three: Trumpet Major W. McCaffrey, 6th Dragoon Guards

Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (... McCaffrey, 6th Dn. G...), engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Delhi (Trumpr., 6th Dragn. Gds.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, unnamed, this plugged at 12 o’clock, fitted with ‘British Crimea’ style suspension, edge bruising, contact mark, good fine and better (3) £280-320

William McCaffrey was born in America and attested for the 6th Dragoon Guards at Dublin on 13 March 1854, aged 15 years. He was appointed Trumpeter on 31 July 1856 and attained the rank of Sergeant-Major on 14 May 1873. He was discharged at Canterbury on 13 March 1878 on the termination of his second period of limited engagement, in possession of three good conduct badges and medals for service in the Crimea and India. Sold with copied discharge papers.
