Archibald William Pultney Pinkerton was born at Dollar, Clackmannanshire, on 14 September 1829, and qualified as M.D. Edin. in 1850. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon on 10 November 1854 and served with the 72nd Highlanders in the Crimea. He resigned in April 1857, qualifying as F.R.C.P. Ed. in the same year, and was re-appointed as an Assistant Surgeon on the Satff in June 1858, and to the Royal Artillery in January 1859. He died at Aden on 23 November 1861.
