Henry Robinson was first commissioned as Deputy Assistant Commissary General on 26 December 1846, becoming A.C.G. in January 1856, and D.C.G. in August 1868. Upon the formation of the Control Department in January 1870 he was appointed a Deputy Controller, ranking with Colonels. He was made a Companion of the Bath in 1858.
