Gunner Samuel Hammersley served in Sir Robert Gardiner’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. ‘His Troop was most severely pressed in covering the left of the army on the retreat from Quatre Bras on the 17th, and took part in the great battle of the 18th June.’
