Sea Gallantry Medal (Foreign Services), V.R., small, silver, ‘From the British Government, For Gallantry and Humanity’ (Georges Lecoq, February, 20, 1877) edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine £140-180

‘The
Wilsons was wrecked in a storm off Cape Le Heve on 20 February 1877. The crew rescued with much difficulty by a lifeboat from Havre’ (ref. Board of Trade records).

For this action, the coxswain and two volunteer members of the lifeboat were granted the Sea Gallantry Medal in Gold; all other members of the crew, including Lecoq, were granted the same medal in Silver.
