Board of Trade Medal for Gallantry in Saving Life, V.R., large, bronze (Robert Wilson wreck of the “Majestic” on the 12th February 1894) good very fine £240-280

‘Manned
Mercury’s boat and rescued the crew of the Majestic which was abandoned in the North Sea. A strong gale was blowing at the time with heavy broken sea and the rescuers ran considerable risk’ (Ref. Board of Trade records).

For the action, 2nd Hand A. Hurlow, 3rd Hand Robert Wilson and 4th Hand A. Holmes, all of the smack
Mercury, were each awarded the Board of Trade Bronze Medal and £1 for their part in the rescue of the crew from the smack Majestic of London, off Yarmouth.
