Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (J. 105377 R. C. Manning, A.B., H.M.S. Orion) extremely fine £60-80

Reginald Charles Manning was born at Devonport in June 1906 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in January 1922. An Able Seaman by the advent of hostilities, he was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in June 1939, while serving in H.M.S. Orion, a cruiser that notched up a remarkable tally of 13 Battle Honours in the 1939-45 War, of which “Atlantic 1939”, “Calabria 1940”, “Mediterranean 1940-44”, “Matapan 1941”, “Greece 1941”, “Crete 1941” and “Malta Convoys 1941” were most probably pertinent to his time aboard.
