Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., 1st issue (LX. 20012 J. A. Mockford, Std., H.M.S. Kingston) good very fine £60-80

John Albert Mockford was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in November 1940, while serving aboard the destroyer H.M.S. Kingston. In November of the previous year, Kingston had shared in the destruction of the U-35 off the Shetlands, and in June 1944 was present in the gun action that led to the destruction of the Italian submarine Evangelista Toricelli in the Red Sea. She went on to lend good service in the evacuation of Greece and Crete, was present at the battle of the Sirte in 1942, but was damaged beyond repair by enemy bombing in dry dock in Malta in April of the latter year.
