Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 3rd issue, coinage head (J. 103472 H. E. Little, A.B., H.M.S. Kent) extremely fine £30-50

Herbert Ernest Little was born in Margate, Kent in August 1903 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 1st Class in August 1921. Advanced to Able Seaman in September 1923, he was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in September 1936, while serving aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Kent. A Chatham dockyard-built ship which cost just over £2,000,000, the Kent was famous in the Far East before the War, where she served three spells as flagship on the China Station, a part of the world no doubt familiar to Able Seaman New.
