Mercantile Marine War Medal 1914-18 (6) (Albert Allerton; Richard B. Jones; John O. Laut; Timothy J. Lynch; John McDowell; William Woolerton) nearly very fine and better (6) £110-150

Fireman and Trimmer Timothy James Lynch, Mercantile Marine, was killed when serving aboard the General Steam Navigation Co. steamship Oriole. The ship, sailing from London to Havre with a crew of 21 and a general cargo, was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-20, east of the Dover Straits. The vessel was lost with all hands. He was the son of Thomas Lynch of 20 Storey Street, North Woolwich, London; his name is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial.
