British War Medal 1914-20 (2 Lieut. K. G. Ibison, R.A.F.) good very fine £120-160

Karl George Ibison was the son of James George and Louise Ibison of 79 Eastbourne Road, Birkdale, Southport, Lancashire. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the R.A.F. on 1 April 1918, he was sent to No. 213 Squadron based at Bergues. In September 1918 the squadron, flying Sopwith F1 Camels, joined 61 Wing in support of the Belgian Army for the final offensive against the Germans in Flanders. On 4 October 1918 the squadron lost four of its aircraft and two of its pilots in the frantic air war over the trenches. One of the pilots killed in action that day was 19 year old 2nd Lieutenant Ibison. The officer was buried in St. Baafs-Vijve Churchyard, Wielsbeke, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
