Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (Captn. of Ords. W. Joseph, A.H.C.) very fine and scarce £200-250

William Joseph was commissioned as Lieutenant of Orderlies in the Army Hospital Corps on 13 June 1874, becoming Captain of Orderlies in February 1878. He served in that rank in Egypt in 1882, as the senior and only officer of the corps aboard the Hospital Ship Carthage. He became Quartermaster and Hon. Captain, Army Medical Service, in July 1881, and retired in June 1890. Prior to receiving his commission he served during the campaign in Abyssinia in 1867-68.
