Charles Dinner was born in Boyton, Launceston, Cornwall. A labourer by occupation, he attested for service in the Royal Engineers in 1870, aged 20 years, having previously served in the Cornwall Rangers Militia. He served overseas in South Africa, December 1878-January 1880; Egypt, August-October 1882; Gibraltar, October 1882-September 1883; South Africa, September 1883-January 1884 and Gibraltar, January 1884-March 1890. He was awarded the South Africa Medal with 1879 clasp and the Egypt Medal and Khedive’s Star. He was discharged on 28 September 1890. Sold with copied service papers.
