Augustus Frederick Elliot was born in London on 15 October 1834, and was appointed Assistant Surgeon on the Army Medical Staff on 1 March 1861. He was promoted to Surgeon Major in July 1870, and served in that rank in the Ashantee expedition of 1873-74 (Medal with clasp). He retired with the honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon in July 1884.
