Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (Lt. E. B. Wallace, R.N. H.M.S. Amethyst, 73-74) together with contemporary dress miniature and small portrait photograph on glass believed to be of the recipient as a Britannia Naval Cadet, extremely fine £400-450

Edmund Basling Wallace was a Naval Cadet at H.M.S. Britannia from 12 March 1861 until 17 December 1862, when he joined the Edgar as a Midshipman. He was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant in December 1867, and to Lieutenant in February 1872, in which rank he served aboard the Amethyst in the Ashantee expedition of 1873-74 (Medal). After service in Crocodile, October 1874 to May 1875, and Agincourt, May to August 1875, he next joined the Minotaur and tragically lost his life when he was hit by a spar falling from aloft whilst moored in the Tagus at Lisbon on 31 December 1875.
