Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Asst.-Surgn. C. H. Browne, 11th Compy. Ryl. Engrs.) fitted with silver ribbon buckle, very fine £350-400

Charles Henry Browne was born at Avranches, Normandy, on 22 October 1832. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon on the Medical Staff on 1 August 1857, and served in the Indian campaign from November 1857 to April 1859, and was present at the siege and capture of the fort of Awah, also at the siege, storm and capture of the town and fort of Kotah (Medal with clasp). He became Surgeon Major in October 1871, retired with honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon in August 1882, and died at Hove, Sussex, on 2 July 1908.
