Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Staff Surgeon W. M. Dowding) contemporary engraved naming, fitted with silver ribbon buckle, good very fine £200-250

William Mills Dowding was born in London on 31 January 1821, and appointed Asssitant Surgeon in the 36th Foot on 9 May 1845. He served in the Crimea in 1855 as Staff Surgeon 2nd Class (Medal with clasp), was appointed to the 54th Foot in April 1859, and rejoined the Staff in July 1860. He retired on half-pay in October 1861, and died at Margate on 26 June 1886.
