A Second World War ‘Iceland’ B.E.M. to Acting Corporal H. Lowes, Durham Light Infantry

British Empire Medal, (Military) G.VI.R., 1st issue (No.4265889 A/Cpl. Henry Lowes), in damaged card box of issue, minor edge bruising, nearly extremely fine £160-200

B.E.M. London Gazette 1 July 1941. Recommendation states: ‘4265889 Lance-Corporal Henry Lower (note different surname to medal), 10th Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, Iceland Force’ ‘Lance-Corporal Lower has shown outstanding devotion to duty, initiative and resource in command of an isolated coast watch post, often under very trying climatic conditions’.

Only 10 B.E.M’s. awarded to the D.L.I. in the Second World War.
