Joseph Eustace Fishbourne was born on 26 December 1841 and e entered the Army as an Assistant Surgeon on the Staff in 1865. He was promoted to Surgeon in 1865 and Surgeon Major in 1877. During his military career he saw service in Afghanistan 1878-79, N.W. Frontier 1881 and the Sudan 1884-85. On Retired Pay with the honorary rank of Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in 1885, he was granted the title of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1898. When on the retired list he was employed in Sheffield. He gained a M.D. at Durham in 1886 and the same year became a F.R.C.S.I. He died at Egham, Surrey on 16 March 1909.
