Thomas de la Rue Ltd took over printing the States notes and on 24 March 1980 a new series was issued. By coincidence this date was also the anniversary of the birth of the company’s founder, Thomas de la Rue, on the island in 1793. His portrait appears on the back of the new five pound note. There appear to have been some teething problems in early production as a few of the first 100 sets include Z prefix replacement notes
