During the later stages of the War the Treasury began to prepare for an end to occupation by printing a supply of ten shillings, one pound and five pound notes. Designs were prepared by E.W. Vaudin and production and storage commenced in total secrecy. Some 88,000 ten shillings were printed, along with 172,000 one pound notes and 30,000 five pound notes, which were immediately available for currency conversion on 9 May 1945
