Sir P.C. Varrier-Jones, 1941, a gold medal for 21 Years’ Service, unsigned, bust right, reverse branch of oak leaves, 26mm, 11.05gm. Very fine; with ornate mount, clip and ring (£40-50)

Sir Pendrill Charles Varrier-Jones, MA, FRCP (1882-1941), founder of the Papworth village settlement, Cambridgeshire, 1918; member of the Medical Council; president of Wycliffe College, Stonehouse. Varrier-Jones is remembered today for his work on tuberculosis, particularly in Cambridgeshire, on which he was engaged from 1909 until his death. He was awarded the Parkes-Weber prize for medicine in 1939
