United States of America, The Completion of the Ambassador Bridge, Detroit, 1930, an Art Deco bronze plaque signed J.M.S. for the Medallic Art Co, robed female with arms outstretched, holding the shields of the United States and Canada, rev. compliments of j.a. bower, 101 x 70mm, engraved 7/50 on lower reverse. About very fine, rare (£90-120)

Plate XXXI, obverse only. The Ambassador Bridge, linking Detroit with Canada, was opened on 15 November 1929. The world’s longest suspension bridge at that time, construction had started in August 1927, the principal financier being the banker Joseph A. Bower
