Plate XXXI. Gustav Ritter von Kahr (1862-1934), lawyer and politician; head of the provincial government of Upper Bavaria, 1917; Prime Minister of Bavaria, 1920-1; State Commissioner 1923-4; present at the Nazi rally at the Bürgerbräu in Berlin on 8 November 1923, the failed ‘Hitler Putsch’, when Ritter played a large part in foiling the Hitler coup; retired 1927; abducted in Munich and murdered by the SS in retribution, 30 June 1934
