Germany, Kartenkönig [King of Cards], 1921, a cast bronze medal by K. Goetz, Kaiser, helmet in hand, walking left in front of the Netherlands Tax Office, speech bubble indicating his claimed net worth, rev. double conjoined portrait of Kaiser holding sceptre, 160 millionen gold in centre, 60mm (K 277). Very fine (£50-70)

The medal is a pun on the former Kaiser’s tax declaration, in which he stated he was only worth one and a half million gulden; the reality was that the Kaiser was allegedly worth 160 million gulden in gold
