Belgian Congo, Opening of the Lower Congo Katanga Railway from Port-Francqui to Elizabethville, 1929, a bronze plaque by E.-J. de Brémaecker for Fonson, figures of Belgium and the Congo, the first diaphanous, the second naked and kneeling, rev. white man seated holding a rock while a native breaks the ground, 65 x 56mm (BM Acq. 1978-82, pl.12, 19; cf. DNW 60, 1393). Extremely fine and attractively patinated (£50-70)
