Sugar Loaf, Nicholas street, proprietor Henry Merrin 1869-77; Sugar Loaf Inn, 25 Milk street; Suspension Bridge, 3 Prince’s place, Clifton; Swan Inn, Morley street, Russelltown; Swan Inn, 119 Stokes Croft, proprietors Stephen Price 1840-55, George Smallcombe 1878. Stephen Price was charged at Bristol Police Court in May 1840 for allowing disorderly conduct. A policeman visited the premises shortly before 4am and found Price tipsy and five 'respectable men' fighting. Two of the men were later seen having a punch up in Cheltenham road and one had been smacked in the face and was bleeding copiously. Price said that the clock had stopped and as they were merry the time had slipped away. He was fined 40
