Les Frères Coquelin, Boulogne, 1911, a uniface plated bronze plaque by A. Maillard, conjoined busts right, 69 x 53mm (Classens 3; Svarstad –; PBE –; BDM –). Very fine and very rare (£40-60)

Benoît-Constant Coquelin (1841-1909) and his brother E.A.H. Coquelin (1848-1909), both from Boulogne, spent a lifetime in the theatrical profession. Constant, the better-known of the two, became a full member of the Comedie Française in 1864 at the age of 23. His distinguished and versatile acting career included playing the title role in Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, and appearing opposite Sarah Bernhardt in Rostand’s L’Aiglon
