J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis, 1876, a uniface cast bronze portrait medal by J.-B. Daniel-Dupuis, cast by Thiebaut & Fils, bust left, 122mm (cf. PBE 293; BDM I, 663; cf. Kjellberg p.676; Gaz. Num. 1898, p.27, 83). Extremely fine with chocolate patina, attractive and very rare (£100-130)

Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1849-99), the brilliantly talented sculptor and medallist from Blois, was shot dead in his sleep by his deranged wife on 14 November 1899, who then turned the gun on herself. This self-portrait by Daniel-Dupuis was subsequently used on the laudatory medal issued by the SAMF in 1900 (cf. Coll. R. Marx 96; cf. BDW 5, 25)
