The medal commemorates the gift of a cradle from the city of Paris to the Emperor and Empress, 16 March 1856. André Vauthier-Galle (1818-99), Parisian sculptor and medallist, studied under his grandfather, André Galle, and was a brother-in-law of Eugène Oudiné
