20th Century, Warwickshire, Warwickshire, Coventry, The Daimler Motor Co Ltd, brass Pass Check, un-numbered, edge plain, 30mm. About very fine and very rare (£20-30)

The Daimler company was founded in 1890 by Gottlieb Daimler (1834-1900), the German inventor and engineer. In England, Daimler motor cars, which enjoyed considerable prestige from the patronage of Edward VII, were built by the Motor Manufacturing Co in Coventry. Following the death of Daimler, the English division of the company was reconstituted as the Daimler Motor Company (1904) Ltd, a move financed by several wealthy British motoring enthusiasts. The cataloguer suggests that the check post-dates 1904. The British Daimler company was taken over by Jaguar Cars in 1960
