Death of Otto von Weddigen, 1915, a bronze medal by B.H. Mayer, bust three-quarters left in cap, rev. merchantman torpedoed by a submarine, crew in lifeboat in centre, 60mm (Frankenhuis 741); Sieg am Skagerrak [Battle of Jutland], 1916, a cast iron medal by F. Hornlein, two mermaids as Furies, armed and advancing in stormy waters, German eagle above, rev. legend in two lines, thick wreath border, 77mm (Frankenhuis –; cf. DNW 33, 338) [2]. Kapitän-Leutnant Otto von Weddigen (1882-1915), commander of U-9 and U-29, was lost with his crew when, returning from an attack on the British battle fleet near the Orkneys, U-29 was rammed by the Dreadnought in the Pentland Firth and sank on 18 March 1915
