Rescue of Dutch Sailors off the Coast of Falmouth, 1917, a bronze award medal by J.J. van Goor, Dutch sailor clasping the hand of an English sailor, other sailors behind, some saluting with oars, rev. the netherlands section of the league of neutral countries, etc, un-named, 60mm (Frankenhuis 1553; cf. DNW 62, 1514). Good very fine, rare (£50-70)

Obverse only illustrated on the Plates. This medal commemorates the rescuing by English sailors of the crews of seven unarmed Dutch merchantmen attacked by the German submarine U-21 off the coast of Falmouth, Cornwall, on 22 February 1917; three of the merchantmen were sunk
