Institute of Civil Engineers, Telford Medal, 1828, a silver award by W. Wyon, bust left, rev. the Menai Suspension Bridge, frosted and in glazed lunette, edge named (Telford Premium 1850, Professor Edward Cowper), 58mm (BHM 1328; E 1206); Great Exhibition, 1851, For Services, a copper medal by W. Wyon, bust of Prince Albert left, rev. wreath, edge named (Professor Cowper), 48mm (Allen A50; BHM 2465; E 1461); Great Exhibition, 1851, Exhibitor’s medal, in copper, by W. Wyon, un-named, 44mm (Allen A55; BHM 2463; E 1462) [3]. Very fine and better, but outer rim of the first has been marked and the glass perhaps replaced (£100-150)

Edward Cowper (1790-1852), b. Newington Butts, London, inventor of a number of revolutionary printing presses, some of which were installed at The Times. In later life he was professor of manufacturing art and mechanics at King’s College. Sold with further biographical detail
