Second only illustrated. The Bolton Evening News, 29 July 1873, records: ‘We have received a specimen of a very artistically-designed and well-executed medal, prepared and issued by Mr Henry Whewell, in commemoration of the Chadwick Statue. On one side of the medal there is a raised figure of the statue, and on the margin the words 'Chadwick Statue, unveiled, August 1st, 1873, by James Barlow, Esq.' On the other side there is a raised model of the 'Chadwick Orphanage, founded by Dr and Mrs Chadwick'. The medal is a very creditable production, and a worthy memorial of the event. Every admirer of our honoured townsman should possess one, and it would be a very pleasing and graceful act if the medal were worn by every person in the procession on the day of the inauguration.’ The article corrects the appellation of the medallist given in BHM
