Presentation silver cigarette box bearing the engraved crest of the 82nd Punjabis, hallmarks for Birmingham 1920, the lid further engraved, ‘Presented to Captain S. W. Haylock by His Brother Officers on the Occasion of His Marriage, 25th October 1922’, 7ins. by 3.5ins. by 2ins., polished overall, occasional denting, but generally in sound condition £50-80

Stanley William Haylock was originally commissioned into the London Regiment in July 1916 and served out in France and Flanders from September of that year to May 1917. Subsequently posted to India, he transferred to the Indian Army and was appointed to the 82nd Punjabis, in which regiment he served in Iraq 1920-21 and was advanced to Captain in February of the latter year. Haylock transferred to the I.A.O.C. in 1928, was advanced to Major in March 1935 and was appointed D.A.D.O.S., Waziristan District in 1938. He would appear to have remained employed in India throughout the 1939-45 War, was appointed Temporary Colonel in 1944 and retired in 1947, having been awarded the O.B.E.
