Great War Period Studio Photographic Portrait of an R.F.C. Pilot in Uniform, three-quarter length, contained in a contemporary leather covered glazed frame, the arched top with applied brass-gilt R.F.C. wings, also contained within the frame is a piece of ‘lucky heather’, good condition £40-60

Attributed to Second Lieutenant George Cowie, No. 54 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps who was killed in action on 22 October 1917, aged 18 years. At the time of his death he was piloting a Sopwith Pup whilst on patrol, circling under a formation of enemy aircraft when he collided with another plane from the same squadron. The German Ace, Max Muller claimed both as his 28th and 29th victims.
