Presentation Silver Ashtray, by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, Regent Street, London, approx. 113mm. diameter, hallmarks for London 1902, inscribed, ‘Presented to the Officers, 29th Burma Infantry by Capt. T. K. Gaskell, on promotion 19 Oct. 1901, additionally engraved with regimental crest, slightly buckled, good condition £20-30

Thomas Kershaw Gaskell was born on 1 October 1870. He was commissioned into the Royal Fusiliers in October 1892 and entered the Indian Army in October 1894. Having served as a Lieutenant in the 29th Regiment (7th Burma Battalion) of Madras Infantry, he was promoted Captain in the 89th Punjabis on 19 October 1901 and in 1909 was appointed a Double Company Commander in the regiment. Gaskell attained the rank of Major in October 1910 and was on Half Pay during 1910-16. Sold with some copied service details.
