Charles Denny Carus-Wilson joined 148 Squadron Inns of Court O.T.C. on 18 April 1908 and with the rank of Lance-Corporal won the Battalion Cup in 1911. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st County of London Yeomanry on 8 June 1912, attaining the rank of Captain on 1 June 1916. Carus-Wilson was wounded and awarded the Military Cross (London Gazette 18 January 1918).
