Five: Naval Airman 1st Class J. Eland, Royal Navy

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; War Medal 1939-45, all unnamed, mounted as worn, nearly extremely fine (5) £80-100

Joseph Eland was born in Langley Park, Durham on 31 July 1921. A chaneller by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman on 18 August 1941. His first seagoing posting was on the cruiser Cleopatra, November 1941-March 1942, he then served on St. Angelo, the Malta shore base, March - June 1942. Promoted to Able Seaman in August 1942, he was next posted to the fleet aircraft carrier Furious, February 1943 - August 1944. After a period based on the shore bases Raven and Waxwing, during which time he became rated as a Naval Airman 1st Class (Ground), he was then posted to the escort carriers Nairana, December 1944-March 1945, Tuncher, March-May 1945 and Trumpeter, July-September 1945. He was released from the service on 4 January 1946. Sold with original Certificate of Service.
