James Simpson was born in Charlton Abbotts, Gloucestershire and enlisted at Cheltenham. Serving with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, he was killed in action on 27 October 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Entitled to clasp to 1914 Star.
