1914-15 Star (Lt. Col. Sir Kildare Borrowes, Bt.) good very fine £60-80

Kildare Borrowes was born on 21 September 1852 and educated at Cheltenham College. He obtained his first commission in 1874 and retired in 1895 as a Major in the 11th Hussars, having been A.D.C. to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland during 1897-80. He succeeded his father as 10th Baronet of Gilltown, Co. Kildare (created 1646) in 1898. He was High Sheriff for Co. Kildare in 1902 and was J.P. and D.L. When war broke out, he was Major and Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel in the South Irish Horse. and acted as Draft Conducting Officer, first entering the France/Flanders thetre of war on 23 December 1915. He died on 21 October 1924; the title passing to his brother. Sold with copied research.
