Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (Surgeon W. H. Allen, A.M.D.), initials corrected, very fine £180-220

William Henry Allen was born on 16 September 1851. Educated at Edinburgh University he gained the L.R.C.P. and L.R.C.S. He was commissioned into the Army Medical Department on 4 February 1877 and served as a Surgeon in the Egyptian War of 1882, including the defence of Alexandria, the occupation of Kafr Dowar and the surrender of Damietta. Later, based in the Cape Province, he took part in the operations in Zululand during 1888. On 4 February 1889 he was promoted Surgeon-Major. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the R.A.M.C. on 17 September 1902. Sold with copied research.
