Ex Viscount Dillon 1892, E. W. Lucas 1919, and Hamilton-Smith 1927.

Henry Steele was appointed as Hospital Mate, for general service, on 3 May 1810, and as Assistant Surgeon in June 1812, to the 5th Foot, with whom he served in the Peninsual. He was appointed to the 11th Light Dragoons on 28 April 1814, and served with the regiment at the battle of Waterloo. He followed the regiment to India, where they took over from the 8th Light Dragoons at Meerut. The regiment suffered badly from disease in India, losing many officers and men from cholera, including Assistant Surgeon Steele who died at Meerut on 17 January 1825.
