Arthur Savory Armstrong was a son of James Armstrong, Esq., of the Bengal Civil Service. He entered the Army as an Ensign on 21 August 1849, joining his elder brother in the 49th Regiment. He was promoted Lieutenant on 5 August 1851, by purchase, and served in the Crimea as Adjutant of the regiment. He was killed ‘early in the morning of the memorable 5th November [1854], at Inkermann. He had only just completed his 23rd year.’
