Samuel Arnold sustained a gunshot wound in the right shoulder on 11 October 1857, at Lucknow (London Gazette 7 April 1858). He was present at Lucknow with Havelock’s first relief force which qualified him for the clasp ‘Defence of Lucknow’ (L/MIL/5/82). He is not, however, entitled to the clasp ‘Central India’. His name appears on the list of Indian Mutiny Veterans who attended the Royal Albert Hall dinner in December 1907, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Mutiny.
