The Yorkshire Light Dragoons, an extremely rare other ranks rectangular brass cross belt plate c1779-1783 the engraved and ‘blacked’ design comprising central script ‘YLD’ with ‘Pro’ above and ‘Patria’ below, laurel sprays in near full surround and an outer single line border, one broad tang and two studs to the reverse, excellent original state £300-350

Note. This regiment appears in the Army List for the period stated as ‘A Regiment of Light Dragoons’. It was raised and commanded by Thomas Lister a considerable land owner in North West Yorkshire. Many of the other officers were similar Yorkshire landowners. The officers’ plates were oval silver with a similar central design but with an outer cursive design, also used on the plates of the Craven Legion 1803-08; this unit was also commanded by Lister, he was later raised to the peerage as Lord Ribblesdale.
