Kaisar-I-Hind, G.VI.R., 1st class, gold, complete with top bar; Coronation 1937, unnamed as issued; St. John Service Medal, silvered base metal (9160/H Mrs C. de B. Dening, County Supt. 1958), mounted as worn, good very fine and better (3) £500-550

Kaisar-i-Hind London Gazette 11 June 1942. ‘For public services in India’. ‘Clare de Burgh, Mrs Dening (Wife of Major-General R. Dening, C.B., M.V.O., M.C., General Officer Commanding Peshawar District), North-West Frontier Province’.

Mrs Clare de Burgh Dening, daughter of J. H. Garratt of Greystones, Co. Wicklow, was the wife of Major-General Roland Dening, C.B., M.V.O., M.C., D.L., Indian Army (1888-1978). The two were married in 1917 and had one son and two daughters. Mrs Dening was sometime County Superintendent in the St. John Ambulance Association and was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind in Gold in 1942 and became a Dame of Grace of the Order of St. John in 1963.
