Mrs Clare de Burgh Dening, daughter of J. H. Garratt of Greystones, Co. Wicklow, was the wife of Major-General Roland Dening, C.B., M.V.O., M.C., D.L., Indian Army (1888-1978). The two were married in 1917 and had one son and two daughters. Mrs Dening was sometime County Superintendent in the St. John Ambulance Association and was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind in Gold in 1942 and became a Dame of Grace of the Order of St. John in 1963.
